Roman Karpovich, Founder
Having worked in IT for over 25 years, I have seen and been a part of many teams, working on dozens of projects in a variety of environments. Over time, I've gained experience, expertise and, consequently, confidence. So, after some time, becoming a team lead/system architect was a natural step in my career. That’s when I started forming a broader and more analytical outlook on software development.
Over the years, I have seen teams struggle with all sorts of technical and more business-like issues, such as workflow bureaucracy, very long processes, external blockers, loss of critical expertise due to high turnover, product owners and developers pulling in different directions, and even simple lack of technical knowledge and skills.
The more I noticed this, the more I tried to prevent it. I felt that if the whole team (sometimes across multiple organisations) was up for the challenge, we could make great improvements. As you might guess, it was rarely possible since the bigger the project, the harder it was to change anything in it.
That's how, with the support of my friend and co-founder Nik, the concept for Scaia was born - to create an organisation that didn't suffer from the common workflow pitfalls of the tech industry.
The core idea behind Scaia is:
To build a company that sets the standard for efficient and effective software development.
Meet our captain and first officer
In my first job as a network engineer, I met an engineering genius who invited me to join his hardware and software company. That's where I gained invaluable experience that still benefits me today. Since then, I've had the opportunity to work on projects of all shapes and sizes as a developer and later as a lead engineer and architect.
At Scaia, I oversee all operations within the company, firstly from a business perspective, making sure we are moving in the right direction and with the right philosophy in mind, and secondly from a technical perspective: I try to pass on my knowledge to the younger guys and help everyone become a better developer.
This is the way: System Administration (configure software created by other people) -> Software Development (write good code fast) -> Lead Software Engineer (make other people write good code fast) -> Sales (sell people who write good code fast).
At Scaia, I focus on customer communication and market research. I am known for my bold and unconventional approach in the tech industry, which often involves metaphorically 'kicking doors open' before asking questions. This adventurous spirit, cultivated over a decade in software engineering, is a key driver behind our innovative projects.
